“Autumnal Ruins”

The first impressive part you come to at Fountains Abbey is this building here. It was very autumnal light, chopping and changing in varying degrees.

This is the great west door looking towards the great east window. When you enter there is no doubt that this particular building must have been impressive.  Off to the sides are some amazing arches which are not in view and other buildings to the right…

It is noted on one website “a place of horror and vast solitude”. Yep, that kind of sums it up!
